Weir & McClafferty Dental Care were delighted to win the Greenock Chamber of Commerce Bee’s Knees Award 2011 in the “Professional” business category.   This award recognised professional businesses that are outstanding within their professional disciplines. Following nomination for this prestigious award Fergus and Josephine were invited along with 11 other professional businesses in Inverclyde to present their business to a panel of ‘dragons den’ style judges.   Following a successful presentation and grilling from the judges, it was a great honour for Fergus and Josephine and their dedicated team to lift the winning trophy!

The Bees Knees Annual Awards Ceremony took place in Greenock Town Hall on Friday 3rd June 2011.

In January, Fergus attended an excellent course in Berne, Switzerland advancing his surgical skills in the field of implant dentistry.  The course was titled "Masters course in Guided Bone Regeneration and Sinus Grafting Procedures".  This course took the format of live skills surgery which allowed him to observe a surgical expert performing some common procedures with an amazing audiovisual set-up which allowed him to see everything in great detail with the option to ask questions.  There was also hands-on components which allowed him to try out the latest techniques and materials in this field.  Attendance at masters courses such as this allows Fergus to bring advances in implant dentistry back to our practice.

One of our dentists Fergus McClafferty successfully completed a gruelling 81 mile cycle in the Etape Caledonia annual event held in Pitlochory and surrounding countryside.  Together with 3 others they managed to raise in excess of £4,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support.  £500 of this was raised thanks to the kind generosity of Weir & McClafferty’s dental patients.   A big thank-you to all who kindly donated to a very worthwhile cause close to all our hearts.
